I am drawn towards semi-circular shawls and rectangular stoles, it seems. One that caught my eye was the Vernal Equinox Shawl by Lankakomero. There are so many beautiful versions of this shawl on ravelry.

Orbfa's version is also gorgeous. The colour gradient she got is incredible: this shawl started out white. She blogged about dyeing it here.
In terms of rectangular shawls, it seems I've queued several by Kieran Foley. First up: Sound of Waves.

Nicolor's Sound of Waves employs amazing colours that completely fit the personality of the shawl. I think I love smooth colour gradients!
Another Kieran Foley design on the list is High Seas. Hmm, sensing a theme.

It's fascinating how strategically placed holes in the fabric can create evocative patterns. Watermel's High Seas looks more like a tapestry than a shawl to me. Beautiful.
Although I don't really need an excuse, this does seem like the perfect opportunity to knit something ridiculously complicated and awesome. (Don't you dare suggest I knit myself a wedding dress.)
They're all gorgeous! I love the Vernal Equinox shawl, and the other two are equally beautiful. I plan to knit my own wedding shawl too. I thought about knitting a dress, but I think I will just sew one instead. Much easier for me. :p

ReplyDeleteWow, gorgeousness all around The Vernal Equinox shawl is incredible, but would make me nervous to knit. I really love the High Seas rectangular shawl - so much beautiful movement. But I'm certain whatever you decide to make will be fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love the Vernal Equinox shawl. I think wedding shawl choices all depend on how you plan to wear it. For example I am planning to wear mine pinned into my hair in lieu of a veil. I actually made my dress decisions based on what I plan to knit (much to the chagrin of my fmil). Can't wait to see what you decide on!

ReplyDeleteI love all of those patterns. Why wasn't I knitting a million years ago when I got married? or when my kids were small enough to wear all those adorable knitted baby sweaters? (Sorry, a few knitter regrets there.)

Wow, what gorgeous choices! I love the Sound of Waves, especially in those colors. I think that knitting a wedding shawl is such a wonderful idea. Anyone can pick out a wedding dress, but only a hand knitter can make themselves a beautiful and treasured memory of their special day.
